New York City Top 25 Restaurants: February 2016

For the first time in months, new restaurants are jumping on New York City’s Top 25 Restaurants list. And not just one or two, but nine. Nine! And one of them is stealing the No. 1 spot from Tutto Il Giorno, which falls to No. 3. Momofuku Nishi, Dave Chang’s newest restaurant under the Momofuku empire, is holding it down with a solid Social Score of 181.49. The No. 2 spot, not exactly new to the city but new to the Top 25 ranking, is Danny Meyer’s Marta, a pizza restaurant helmed by Chef Nick Anderer.

This month in New York, we also welcome Eataly pop-up, Baita; Ken Oringer and Jamie Bissonnette’s Toro; Tilda All Day; Santina; Pig & Khao; Amali; and Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich’s first new place in nearly a decade, La Sirena.

New York City Top 25 Restaurants: December 2015

Since Tutto Il Giorno joined Foodable’s Top 25 Restaurants in New York City back in April, it has consistently placed in the Top 5 each month. But it’s never made it to the No. 1 spot — until now. With a score of 181.49, the Italian restaurant takes it to the top.

NYC’s Tutto Il Giorno, located on Franklin Street in Manhattan’s TriBeCa neighborhood, is a branch of the Hamptons-based restaurant, which highlights contemporary Italian cuisine from Naples. The extensive menu includes dishes like troccoli (whole grain pasta, porcini, chestnuts, and rosemary); tortelli (squash with lamb ragu, almonds, toasted pumpkin seeds); branzino (poached in a tomato, celery and olive oil broth, spinach); and vitello (roasted natural veal chop, Yukon gold potatoes, cherry tomato, tropea red onion).

Also making this month’s Top 5 are ABC Kitchen, Marc Forgione, Eataly, and Peasant. And while there are no new restaurants joining the rankings for December’s list, four of last month’s have been replaced with restaurants coming back onto the list for the first time in months.

New York City Top 25 Restaurants: October 2015

Not surprisingly, Marc Forgione makes his way back to No. 1 for this month’s Foodable Top 25 ranking in New York City. This month, as with all other months, we pull unstructured data from our Restaurant Social Media Index from the full month prior to determine accurate sentiment, influence, and engagement in regards to these restaurants by NYC locals.

Catch, Cosme, and Tutto Il Giorno all remain steady in the Top 5 at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 5, respectively, and last month’s frontrunner, ABC Kitchen, drops to No. 4.

The biggest movers this month — for better or worse — are the Arlington Club, Momofuku Noodle Bar, and Eataly, and four restaurants from last month’s list fall off completely, replaced by establishments making a reappearance in the ranking for the first time in months, a couple for the first time since 2014.

New York City Top 25 Restaurants: August 2015

ABC Kitchen was the first restaurant to claim No. 1 status on Foodable’s premier Top 25 Restaurants in New York City list back in September 2013. Since then, the Jean-Georges restaurant has seen many places on (and off) the list. But this month, it’s back on top, after having been off the list since May, where it ranked No. 18.

So, what’s happened in the ABC Kitchen space in August that could have shifted to consumers being more proactive about their positive sentiment for the farm-to-table establishment? While there’s no one thing that’s certain, ABC Kitchen has gotten some great press within the past few months from publications like O, The Oprah Magazine to Architectural Digest.

Last month’s No. 1, Marc Forgione, drops a few spots to No. 4, and we welcome quite a few restaurants back on the list.

New York City Top 25 Restaurants: July 2014

Thomas Keller’s Per Se makes it to No. 1 for the first time on this month’s Foodable Top 25 NYC Restaurant rankings with a Social Score of 171.83. This is the highest Score we’ve seen in the NYC market so far. Opened in 2004, Per Se is located on the fourth floor of the Time Warner Center in Columbus Circle, and offers New American and French cuisine. The kitchen is helmed by Chef Eli Kaimeh.

Last month’s frontrunner, The Modern, drops to No. 5, with ABC Kitchen swooping into the No. 2 spot. Alder makes a significant jump to No. 3 (up from No. 16), with Perilla placing No. 4 (up from No. 21). Momofuku Noodle Bar and Bar Boulud both take a plunge from No. 3 and No. 4 last month to No. 17 and No. 19, respectively, for July. Eataly and Balthazar both hop back on the list this month, and we welcome Peasant and The Cecil (Harlem) to the Top 25 for the first time.
