New York City Top 25 Restaurants: August 2015

ABC Kitchen was the first restaurant to claim No. 1 status on Foodable’s premier Top 25 Restaurants in New York City list back in September 2013. Since then, the Jean-Georges restaurant has seen many places on (and off) the list. But this month, it’s back on top, after having been off the list since May, where it ranked No. 18.

So, what’s happened in the ABC Kitchen space in August that could have shifted to consumers being more proactive about their positive sentiment for the farm-to-table establishment? While there’s no one thing that’s certain, ABC Kitchen has gotten some great press within the past few months from publications like O, The Oprah Magazine to Architectural Digest.

Last month’s No. 1, Marc Forgione, drops a few spots to No. 4, and we welcome quite a few restaurants back on the list.

New York City Top 25 Restaurants: July 2015

The Big Apple has boasted some big surprises for this month's Top 25.

For one, Alder, a New York City favorite that has consistently graced the Top 25 for months and months in a row, is closing with possible plans of relocation. It landed at No. 9 with a Social Score of 177.60. But in happier news, Marc Forgione has returned to No. 1 for the first time since April with a Social Score of 183.18.

Also this month, two familiar faces decided to pay a visit for the first time since 2014. Betony, which offers New American cuisine and creative cocktails, comes in at No. 15 with a Social Score of 174.17, and Dirt Candy, a restaurant that serves inventive vegetarian dishes, follows closely behind at No. 16 with a Social Score of 174.09. What could have inspired this resurrection?

New York City Top 25 Restaurants: June 2015

Foodable Labs’ June data shows some month over month movement from April to June, with Cosme stealing the top spot from Marc Forgione, which drops to No. 3 this month. This is not only Cosme’s debut at No. 1, but its first time in Top 5 territory. Catch sits pretty at No. 2, a spot it’s held since January.

Located in the Flatiron District and headed up by Chef Enrique Olvera, Cosme offers Mexican-inspired cuisine with a major focus on local, seasonal ingredients sourced from surrounding areas, including the Hudson Valley. And what’s great Mexican food without a complementary beverage program? Cosme’s drink menu is given just as much thought as its dishes, with best-in-class artisanal spirits.

Last month brought seven first-timer restaurants to the NYC Foodable Top 25 list. Six of them managed to stay on, with the exception of Navy. For June’s ranking, we welcome Meadowsweet, Gotham Bar and Grill, Church Street Tavern, and The Chester.

New York City Top 25 Restaurants: April 2015

A lot has happened on the New York Foodable Top 25 scene since January.

This month, we introduce not one, not two, but seven new restaurants to the list! Welcome, Tutto Il Giorno, Bagatelle, El Toro Blanco, Beautique, Parm, The Gander, and Navy.

For the first time since October 2014, Marc Forgione makes its way back to No. 1, ending Alder’s two-month streak on top, which now falls to No. 6. Catch holds steady at No. 2, while newbie Tutto Il Giorno sits pretty at No. 3. This month’s biggest mover was East 12th Osteria, which dropped from No. 7 to No. 23.

New York City Top 25 Restaurants: June 2014

MoMA’s The Modern climbs its way to the No. 1 spot in June (up from No. 4) for the first time, pushing Wylie Dufresne’s WD-50 to No. 11. This is the first time since November 2013 that WD-50 has not been in the Top 10, and we can probably attribute the fall to the announcement (made earlier this month) of the restaurant closing at the end of November. Eleven Madison Park holds on at No. 10, and Betony, Momofuku Noodle Bar, The Marrow, and Lure Fishbar all shoot up to Top 10 status, making big jumps from May.

New to the rankings this month, we welcome Marea, Le Bernardin, Pearl & Ash, and The Dutch.

If you’re just signing on, our monthly Top 25 rankings are not hand-selected by us, but rather, by you — our Restaurant Social Media Index drills down into each city’s local audience or geo-located social actions, and ranks restaurant brands by consumer sentiment and influence across 17 social media platforms depending on what you’re saying on social about the brands. (Here's the full breakdown of How It Works.)
