New York City Top 25 Restaurants: May 2014

May proved to be a solid month in welcoming new restaurants across the board to our Foodable Top 25 city rankings. On the New York front, we welcome Rye, located in Brooklyn, as it makes its Foodable 25 debut.

WD-50 makes its way to No. 1 again for the third time since we began our NYC rankings back in September 2013. The Wylie Dufresne restaurant pushes Arlington Club, April’s No. 1, down to No. 9. May’s Top 5 consists of a new lineup: WD-50 (up from No. 3), Perilla (up from No. 4), Dirt Candy (up from No. 11), The Modern (up from No. 17) and Locanda Verde (up from No. 12), respectively.

Jumping back onto the list this month are DB Bistro Moderne, Catch, and Manon.

New York City Top 25 Restaurants: March 2014

For the second month in a row, Wylie Dufresne’s WD-50 claims the top spot in Foodable’s Top 25 Restaurant rankings. Its Social Score rose from 158.64 in February to 163.99 in March. Arlington Club (No. 3) is the only other restaurant that has remained in the Top 5 this month. Saxon + Parole and Marc Forgione have both fallen, and Red Rooster Harlem fell off the list completely. Rounding out the Top 5 for March are, respectively, The Spotted Pig (up from No. 8), Arlington Club (up from No. 5), Perilla (up from No. 13), and Manon (a completely new addition to NYC’s Foodable 25).

New Foodable 25 additions this month, aside from Manon, are Catch, La Cenita, Estela, and Casa La Femme, with Red Rooster Harlem, Lafayette, Charlie Bird, The Stanton Social, Balthazar, and Boulud Sud falling off.

New York City Top 25 Restaurants: January 2014

Perilla, which has held steady in the Top 5 each month since we launched the New York City #Foodable 25 rankings in September, has climbed to No. 1 from No. 4 this month, flip-flopping with last month’s top runner, Marc Forgione.

Arlington Club, Per Se, Kin Shop, and RedFarm all took hits this month, but still held on in the rankings. ABC Kitchen is back in the Top 10, jumping from No. 20 to No. 6. American Cut jumped back on the list this month, as did Lafayette and Balthazar.

A Harold Dieterle concept, Perilla is a small venue – 18 tables and 10 spots at the bar – in Greenwich Village that focuses on fresh, seasonal ingredients, each dish finely tuned with a precise balance of flavors and textures. At the end of the day, judging by social consumer sentiment, the equation of a notable chef, intimate venue, seasonal ingredients and active social media channels, make Perilla a memorable experience for consumers.

New York City Top 25 Restaurants: December 2013

Marc Forgione has been ranked in the top two spots since our New York's #Foodable25 inception in September. Making his way back to the No. 1 spot this month, the restaurateur has outdone himself with a new social score of 143.94, up from 142.31 in November. Locanda Verde, who championed the list last month, moves to No. 3, with Red Farm – a new addition to the #Foodable25 list – sitting at No. 2. This drastic jump may come as a surprise, but with all this month's buzz about the restaurant, including a new UWS location, which features a long communal table in the center, as well as the start of Decoy, a "cocktail-centric spinoff" of Red Farm in the space below its original location, it comes as no shock.

Also this month, The Spotted Pig jumps from No. 16 to No. 5, Alder falls from No. 7 to No. 22, and there are tons of new restaurants in the rankings.

Congratulations to the handful of new additions this month, which, aside from Red Farm, are making their first-ever appearance on a #Foodable25 list: Maysville, Momofuku Noodle Bar, WD-50, The Marrow, Arlington Club, Casa Mono, and The Breslin.

New York City Top 25 Restaurants: November 2013

Our New York City #Foodable25 rankings haven’t shifted much since we rolled out the city ranking in September. This shows us what we already expected of a solid food city like New York: consistency and loyalty amongst local consumers. There were, however, shifts throughout the usual contenders, as well as some new players in the game. Congratulations to Lafayette, American Cut, Betony, and Piora, who all made the list for the first time this month.

Alder jumped into the Top 10 (up from No. 22), as did Dirt Candy (up from No. 15). The Spotted Pig and Balthazar both fell into the second half of the list.

Topping the list for November is Locanda Verde, TriBeCa’s Italian taverna, with a Social Score of 142.73. Driven by Chef Andrew Carmellini, Locanda Verde’s menu includes items like Lamb Meatball Sliders, Pumpkin Agnolotti and Pomegranate-Glazed Duck, amongst other delectable dishes. The restaurant has received high praise from The New York Times, Esquire, GQ and Bon Appetit, yet remains casual and affordable, making it approachable while maintaining its high quality and value.
