New York City Top 25 Restaurants: November 2017

Welcome back! Ready to learn more about New York’s bustling dining scene? Well, you’ve come to the right place! The Big Apple has many newcomers making a big splash and  presenting themselves as a fierce competition to the veterans of the Top 25 list.

With that being said, there are a dozen new restaurants that made the November list for 2017. That’s right— 12 new restaurants. Seven of those new restaurants have made it into the coveted top ten spots.

Foodable welcomes Ferris celebrating at the No. 1 spot of the list with a score of 188.03. This New American restaurant is located at the Flatiron’s new Made Hotel and it’s kitchen is led by Chef Greg Proechel. The menu features a balance of rustic and refined preparations highlighting Proechel’s favorite ingredients of each season.

At No. 2 we have The Aviary’s NYC outpost with a score of 186.99. Debuting in New York for the first time, The Aviary is located at the top floor of the Mandarin Oriental overlooking Central Park. This progressive restaurant/cocktail bar aims to provide an interactive journey for guests, boasting small food plates and inventive, thoughtful cocktails. Needless to say, it’s a unique experience.

In third place, we have Le Coucou, another first timer on the Top 25 list, with a score of 186.31. This restaurant is located at the corner of Lafayette and Howard Street and it is led by the Chicago-native and internationally acclaimed chef Daniel Rose of Spring and La Bourse et La Vie in Paris. At Le Coucou, a Stephen Starr restaurant, you will experience chef’s personal take on French cuisine.

Other newcomers to the Top 25 are: Empellón, located in Madison Avenue, at 186.27; Jeju Noodle Bar, from chef Douglas Kim who’s worked at places like Gordon Ramsay NYC, Nobu and Per Se, at 184.17; Nur, boasting modern Middle Eastern cuisine, at 183.68; Public Kitchen, from the people behind Jean-Georges’ restaurants at 183.64; Fairfax, an all-day neighborhood cafe and wine bar, at 182.02; Emily, from the folks behind Emmy Squared (Watch On Foodable Side Dish Episode, here), at 181.53; THE POOL, a seafood restaurant created by Major Food Group, at 181.49; Alta, featuring mediterranean inspired food, at 180.42; and finally, L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon, a chef who currently holds 31 Michelin stars, at 180.22.

New York City Top 25 Restaurants: October 2015

Not surprisingly, Marc Forgione makes his way back to No. 1 for this month’s Foodable Top 25 ranking in New York City. This month, as with all other months, we pull unstructured data from our Restaurant Social Media Index from the full month prior to determine accurate sentiment, influence, and engagement in regards to these restaurants by NYC locals.

Catch, Cosme, and Tutto Il Giorno all remain steady in the Top 5 at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 5, respectively, and last month’s frontrunner, ABC Kitchen, drops to No. 4.

The biggest movers this month — for better or worse — are the Arlington Club, Momofuku Noodle Bar, and Eataly, and four restaurants from last month’s list fall off completely, replaced by establishments making a reappearance in the ranking for the first time in months, a couple for the first time since 2014.

New York City Top 25 Restaurants: June 2014

MoMA’s The Modern climbs its way to the No. 1 spot in June (up from No. 4) for the first time, pushing Wylie Dufresne’s WD-50 to No. 11. This is the first time since November 2013 that WD-50 has not been in the Top 10, and we can probably attribute the fall to the announcement (made earlier this month) of the restaurant closing at the end of November. Eleven Madison Park holds on at No. 10, and Betony, Momofuku Noodle Bar, The Marrow, and Lure Fishbar all shoot up to Top 10 status, making big jumps from May.

New to the rankings this month, we welcome Marea, Le Bernardin, Pearl & Ash, and The Dutch.

If you’re just signing on, our monthly Top 25 rankings are not hand-selected by us, but rather, by you — our Restaurant Social Media Index drills down into each city’s local audience or geo-located social actions, and ranks restaurant brands by consumer sentiment and influence across 17 social media platforms depending on what you’re saying on social about the brands. (Here's the full breakdown of How It Works.)

New York City Top 25 Restaurants: February 2014

In our now six months of tracking New York City’s social consumer sentiment toward local restaurants, we’ve seen quite a few shifts from month to month. The data from February has been crunched, putting WD-50 with a Social Score of 158.64 in the No. 1 spot for the first time. A Wylie Dufresne concept, WD-50’s focus is New American cuisine, hosts private dining in its wine cellar, and currently offers two tasting menus. Aside from having a James Beard Award-winning chef, WD-50 is known for its culinary innovation – in both technique and structure.

Perilla, January’s No. 1 holder, drops all the way to No. 13, Marc Forgione remains in Top 5 status, and Momofuku climbs from No. 13 to No. 6. Also making significant shifts, for better or worse, are Betony, Locanda Verde and Per Se.

Congrats to Saxon + Parole, who made #Foodable25 for the first time this month (at No. 2, no less!), and those who jumped back onto the list this month: DB Bistro Moderne, The Stanton Social and Boulud Sud.

New York City Top 25 Restaurants: December 2013

Marc Forgione has been ranked in the top two spots since our New York's #Foodable25 inception in September. Making his way back to the No. 1 spot this month, the restaurateur has outdone himself with a new social score of 143.94, up from 142.31 in November. Locanda Verde, who championed the list last month, moves to No. 3, with Red Farm – a new addition to the #Foodable25 list – sitting at No. 2. This drastic jump may come as a surprise, but with all this month's buzz about the restaurant, including a new UWS location, which features a long communal table in the center, as well as the start of Decoy, a "cocktail-centric spinoff" of Red Farm in the space below its original location, it comes as no shock.

Also this month, The Spotted Pig jumps from No. 16 to No. 5, Alder falls from No. 7 to No. 22, and there are tons of new restaurants in the rankings.

Congratulations to the handful of new additions this month, which, aside from Red Farm, are making their first-ever appearance on a #Foodable25 list: Maysville, Momofuku Noodle Bar, WD-50, The Marrow, Arlington Club, Casa Mono, and The Breslin.
