New York City Top 25 Restaurants: November 2017

Welcome back! Ready to learn more about New York’s bustling dining scene? Well, you’ve come to the right place! The Big Apple has many newcomers making a big splash and  presenting themselves as a fierce competition to the veterans of the Top 25 list.

With that being said, there are a dozen new restaurants that made the November list for 2017. That’s right— 12 new restaurants. Seven of those new restaurants have made it into the coveted top ten spots.

Foodable welcomes Ferris celebrating at the No. 1 spot of the list with a score of 188.03. This New American restaurant is located at the Flatiron’s new Made Hotel and it’s kitchen is led by Chef Greg Proechel. The menu features a balance of rustic and refined preparations highlighting Proechel’s favorite ingredients of each season.

At No. 2 we have The Aviary’s NYC outpost with a score of 186.99. Debuting in New York for the first time, The Aviary is located at the top floor of the Mandarin Oriental overlooking Central Park. This progressive restaurant/cocktail bar aims to provide an interactive journey for guests, boasting small food plates and inventive, thoughtful cocktails. Needless to say, it’s a unique experience.

In third place, we have Le Coucou, another first timer on the Top 25 list, with a score of 186.31. This restaurant is located at the corner of Lafayette and Howard Street and it is led by the Chicago-native and internationally acclaimed chef Daniel Rose of Spring and La Bourse et La Vie in Paris. At Le Coucou, a Stephen Starr restaurant, you will experience chef’s personal take on French cuisine.

Other newcomers to the Top 25 are: Empellón, located in Madison Avenue, at 186.27; Jeju Noodle Bar, from chef Douglas Kim who’s worked at places like Gordon Ramsay NYC, Nobu and Per Se, at 184.17; Nur, boasting modern Middle Eastern cuisine, at 183.68; Public Kitchen, from the people behind Jean-Georges’ restaurants at 183.64; Fairfax, an all-day neighborhood cafe and wine bar, at 182.02; Emily, from the folks behind Emmy Squared (Watch On Foodable Side Dish Episode, here), at 181.53; THE POOL, a seafood restaurant created by Major Food Group, at 181.49; Alta, featuring mediterranean inspired food, at 180.42; and finally, L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon, a chef who currently holds 31 Michelin stars, at 180.22.

Chicago Top 25 Restaurants: April 2017

Hey Chicago! Foodable’s top 25 restaurants list is back and you won’t be disappointed. There are five NEW restaurants making the coveted list this ranking, including the No. 1! Breaking into this list isn’t easy considering how competitive the culinary scene is in the Windy City.

Foodable welcomes Monteverde at No. 1. At the helm of the kitchen at this modern Italian restaurant is the culinary mastermind, Sarah Grueneberg. Just this week, she was given the James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Great Lakes and was one of the two Chi-town chefs to win.

At a close second is the top 25 veteran, The Aviary, a swanky cocktail lounge known for its tasty small bites. Rounding out the top three is another top 25 veteran, Nellcote, a posh American restaurant known for its small plates, cocktails and brunch.

Like we said, there are quite a few restaurants making their debut on this list! Besides Monteverde, we have the upscale Ronero at No. 11 serving Latin American fare and the Mexican restaurant Quiote at No. 19. We also welcome Entente at No. 20, a posh restaurant with New American fare and a reservations-only chef’s tasting menu and at No. 21 is Ella Elli, an Italian-Mediterranean restaurant, known for its small plates.

Check out the rest of the list below!

Chicago Top 25 Restaurants: February 2016

For the first time since May 2015, RPM Steak jumps to the No. 1 spot on Chicago’s Top 25 restaurants list for February. Nellcôte, which almost slipped out of the Top 10 last month, bounces back, stealing No. 2. And Michelin-starred Parachute makes its way onto the list for the first time ever at No. 3.

Not new to the game, Parachute serves up creative Korean-American fare in Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood. The menu, which changes daily, includes dishes like black kale, sesame gomae, cured egg, sourdough, and avocado; pork belly and mung bean pancake with kimchi, black garlic, hen egg, and pineapple; and udon, Dungeness crab, guanciale, fava beans, and sabayon. The intimate, family-run restaurant, which seats only 40, specializes in shared plates, and while private tables are available, communal seating is a big part of its makeup. Also new to the list this month is Ruxbin Kitchen, a New American restaurant described as a “cozy, offbeat BYOB spot with recycled furnishings.”

This month, we welcome back a couple of concepts and say goodbye to four. Check out the full ranking below!

Chicago Top 25 Restaurants: December 2015

Pulling Restaurant Social Media Index (RSMI) data for the full month of December, the Top 25 restaurants for Chicago this month includes three “newbies” to the list, all of which fall under the Boka Restaurant Group’s (BRG) portfolio of restaurants. Chris Pandel’s Balena, Giuseppe Tentori’s GT Fish & Oyster, and Swift & Sons, BRG’s new American steakhouse in the West Loop (of which Pandel also helms the kitchen).

The Aviary makes its way back into the top spot from last month’s No. 9, and the previous No. 1 and No. 2 spots each bump down one spot, putting Little Goat Diner and RPM Italian at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

Big movers of the month — for better or worse — include Urbanbelly, Takito Kitchen, CH Distillery, and Perennial Virant.

Chicago Top 25 Restaurants: September 2015

Chicago’s Top 25 restaurants this month, pulled from September RSMI data, looks like a random shuffling of restaurants, with huge leaps and some big falls, along with new restaurants debuting, and restaurants jumping back onto the list. Chicago is a foodie town, and what seems to be popular one month with consumers can quickly change, but such is the restaurant business. So let’s just jump in, shall we?

Stephanie Izard’s Little Goat Diner climbs back to No. 1 for the first time since July 2014. Meanwhile, last month’s frontrunner, The Aviary, tumbles to No. 9. RPM Italian has had a few rough past months on the list, but it’s the biggest jump for September, sliding into No. 2 from last month’s No. 20. This month, we welcome three restaurants debuting on a Top 25 list. Welcome Boka, Momotaro, and Perennial Virant!
