The dining scene in London is an eclectic mix, as evidenced by this month’s top three restaurants on the London Top 25 list compiled based on social data from Foodable Labs.
The top three restaurants in the London Top 25 welcomes two brand-newcomers to the list: Kitchen Table at No. 1 and Antidote Wine Bar at No. 3. Fitting nicely in between them at No. 2 is Benares, moving up from No. 3.
The dining experience at Kitchen Table is intimate and interactive. In a small (19 seat) area that encourages full interaction with the chefs, the experience can be described as “kitchen theatre,” where guests can see Head Chef James Knappett’s prepare his locally sourced, foraged menu changes daily. Knappett’s team walks diners through a 10 to 15 course tasting menu, featuring contemporary European techniques and a focus on British ingredients and flavours.
Michelin-starred Benares is where Chef Atul Kochhar takes inspiration from his native India to serve modern Indian cuisine using regional British ingredients.
Signature main dishes include mung bean and lentil tikki chaat with spiced quinoa, avocado and coriniander; masala squid with mango and ginger dressing; and bhatti spiced lamb pasanda. Be sure to save room for stem ginger and gooseberry cheesecake, gulab jamun crème brulee, or cardamom and coffee pannacotta with white chocolate sorbet for dessert.
Antidote Wine Bar’s extensive wine list is made up mainly of biodynamic and organic French wines from small growers. Antidote attributes much of the success of its food to “great sourcing.” The restaurant offers a menu that changes daily based on the freshest available local ingredients. Headed by Chef William Dee, Antidote’s a la carte menu features dishes like English cucumber with green almonds, and nigella seeds; pork terrine; mackerel with kohlrabi and wild fennel; Devon crab; and Yorkshire lamb with violet artichoke.
Notably, moving up 16 spots to No. 5 is Blacklock, well-known for its mouthwatering meats – everything from beef (porterhouse, sirloin, ribs, and even a 35-day aged hanger steak sandwich with hot bone marrow) to lamb (cutlet, T-bone, and neck) to pork (loin, rib, belly, and, of course, chops).
