London Top 25 Restaurants: August 2016

The dining scene in London is an eclectic mix, as evidenced by this month’s top three restaurants on the London Top 25 list compiled based on social data from Foodable Labs.

The top three restaurants in the London Top 25 welcomes two brand-newcomers to the list: Kitchen Table at No. 1 and Antidote Wine Bar at No. 3. Fitting nicely in between them at No. 2 is Benares, moving up from No. 3.

The dining experience at Kitchen Table is intimate and interactive. In a small (19 seat) area that encourages full interaction with the chefs, the experience can be described as “kitchen theatre,” where guests can see Head Chef James Knappett’s prepare his locally sourced, foraged menu changes daily. Knappett’s team walks diners through a 10 to 15 course tasting menu, featuring contemporary European techniques and a focus on British ingredients and flavours.

Michelin-starred Benares is where Chef Atul Kochhar takes inspiration from his native India to serve modern Indian cuisine using regional British ingredients.

Signature main dishes include mung bean and lentil tikki chaat with spiced quinoa, avocado and coriniander; masala squid with mango and ginger dressing; and bhatti spiced lamb pasanda. Be sure to save room for stem ginger and gooseberry cheesecake, gulab jamun crème brulee, or cardamom and coffee pannacotta with white chocolate sorbet for dessert.

Antidote Wine Bar’s extensive wine list is made up mainly of biodynamic and organic French wines from small growers. Antidote attributes much of the success of its food to “great sourcing.” The restaurant offers a menu that changes daily based on the freshest available local ingredients. Headed by Chef William Dee, Antidote’s a la carte menu features dishes like English cucumber with green almonds, and nigella seeds; pork terrine; mackerel with kohlrabi and wild fennel; Devon crab; and Yorkshire lamb with violet artichoke.

Notably, moving up 16 spots to No. 5 is Blacklock, well-known for its mouthwatering meats – everything from beef (porterhouse, sirloin, ribs, and even a 35-day aged hanger steak sandwich with hot bone marrow) to lamb (cutlet, T-bone, and neck) to pork (loin, rib, belly, and, of course, chops).

London Top 25 Restaurants: February 2016

This is Foodable’s second installation for the Top 25 restaurants ranking in London, our first international city rollout (since then, we’ve unveiled Canada’s list, too). The best restaurants of February, as determined by consumers on social media tracked through Foodable Labs and the Restaurant Social Media Index (RSMI), introduced a few new places, more than half of which are Michelin-starred establishments.

This month, Barrafina, which ranked No. 19 last month, shoots up to No. 1. The restaurant reads more like a tapas bar and specializes in Spanish-influenced small plates and is known for its sherry cocktails. Also rounding out the Top 5 are — in no particular order — Marianne, Dabbous, and two new-to-the-ranking contenders, Benares Restaurant and Club Gascon. Benares features unique fusion of Indian-British cuisine, and Club Gascon’s fare is described as “imaginative cuisine from the South West of France.”

We also welcome The Glasshouse, Hedone, and Bonhams Restaurant.

London Top 25 Restaurants: December 2015

Kicking off Foodable’s first international ranking for our Top 25 Restaurants series is London. If you are currently following along with our other city-level lists, you’re probably already aware that Foodable’s Top 25 rankings are not hand-selected or editorially chosen. Rather, we consult our Restaurant Social Media Index (RSMI) to provide data of what London locals are chatting about most — for better or worse — on their social media channels in regards to restaurants and menu items. And we’re not just tracking Facebook and Twitter, but a total of 17 social platforms. Through keyword tagging, we are able to attain granular data on consumer sentiment and influence of these restaurants. Each month, restaurants are bound to shift, while some will fall off completely, perhaps returning another month, with other strong suiters climbing up and onto the list, as well.

Pulling from December data, London’s Top 25 for December is a top-notch bunch. Holding the top spot on the premier list is Jinjuu with a Social Score of 188.27. Jinjuu, located in London’s Soho neighborhood and helmed by celebrity chef Judy Joo, specializes in modern Korean food. Jinjuu comes with an extensive menu of both large and shareable plates, including street tacos (bulgogi beef, pork belly, and tofu Caesar), carnitas fries, sliders, bowls, and proteins, but its signature dish is Korean fried chicken.

Also in December’s Top 5 are Dabbous, Marianne, The Palomar, and The Araki.
