Jake Bickelhaupt is proof that you can take a chef out of the kitchen, but you can’t take the fiery passion out of a true chef. Though the culinarian has worked at some of the most notable Chicago restaurants, including Charlie Trotter’s and Schwa, Bickelhaupt’s brief tenure wasn’t enough to make him a household name. So, when he submitted a Kickstarter campaign to help fund his own fine dining restaurant concept, those plugged in to the Chicago foodscape chuckled a bit.
But now, it seems Bickelhaupt and his wife/business partner Alexa may have the last laugh. Their new venture, 42 Grams, located in Uptown, is set to open mid-January.
