Leading global information company The NPD Group recently reported consumer habits within the restaurant industry for 2013. This past year, overall restaurant visits fell flat while each visit led to more spending. Consumer spending increased 2 percent since last year, which concludes growth in average check amount.
The numbers also show an increase of visits in certain industry segments, including QSRs and fast casuals. In fact, fast casual visits jumped 8 percent over the past year! This is most likely attributed to the healthy, fresh, made-to-order, chef-driven concepts that the fast casual segment stands for. Another interesting factoid?
