We came, we ate, we documented.
Miami New Times put on quite the event last night in honor of kicking off Miami Spice (which, by the way, has been extended an additional month this year, through September). Iron Fork, held at the Adrienne Arsht Center, made us quickly remember two things: 1. How much we love this city and its emerging food scene, and 2. Why you shouldn't inhale samples from 43 restaurants just because you can. (Check out some of the food offerings here - can you blame us?!)
Aside from the tastings, two of Miami's hottest chefs - Jamie DeRosa of Tongue & Cheek and Giorgio Rapicavoli of Eating House [video] - battled it out in the kitchen.
Hosted by Chef Allen, the chefs were required to make two dishes each, which were to be taste-tested by culinary notables Chef Timon Balloo of Sugarcane; Danny Serfer of Blue Collar; and Sean Brasel of Meat Market. (We imagine it to be a tough job, but someone's gotta do it, right?)
The competition had one catch: There was a secret ingredient that was unveiled moments before - crab. Here's a brief timeline of how it all went down.
After 45 minutes of working their magic in front of Miami's finest, skills were put to the test by the judges.
And the winner was... Giorgio from Eating House!
We were quickly reminded that many chefs - great chefs, that is - are, indeed, cheflebrities. [For the record, we hate that word.]
But what's a successful event without snow-like confetti to end the night?
Shout out to those who tweeted with us, at us, and around us at #IronFork - there were a slew of social media foodies tweeting, Vine-ing, and - in true food fashion - Instagramming away. Check out some of the top tweets below and join the conversation.
