Kate's Kitchen in the Lower Haight is about to get a facelift. But fear not, regulars: the beloved greasy spoon isn't getting a menu overhaul and most things will stay the same - for the daytime, at least. 28-year-old chef Thomas Martinez has recently come on as a new partner with plans to transform Kate's to a new restaurant called Chaparral in the evening, which will boast local ingredients and sustainable meat on its menu. During late night hours (after 11:30 pm), Martinez hopes to serve late night bites like burgers & fries with wine or beer.
