Chicago's Foodie Scene Hasn't Increased Restaurant Sales

Chicago is known for its active foodie scene. Chi town restaurants always create a lot of social buzz every month with top social scores on our Chicago Top 25 Restaurants list. However, even though the culinary scene seems to be alive and well, the number of restaurants has only increased by 4.5 percent from 2005 to 2014. Most of that growth is from chains versus independents. Full service chains grew by 11%, while full-service independents grew only 1.1 % over the pass nine years.
