Philadelphia’s Caribbean Cuisine Week officially kicked off today. Many Philadelphia and South Jersey restaurants will be participating this year, but the event is about more than just the food — CCW will raise funds for more than 700 high school athletes in the Caribbean to attend a local track and field meet, the largest in the country.
Participating restaurants include Reef, Mixto, and SweetWater Bar, which will serve light Caribbean dishes. SweetWater’s Chef George Kyrtatas is taking an interestingly different take on what most would peg ‘traditional Caribbean,’ like spicy dishes.
