If you’re plugged in to the innovation of the food world, you are probably well aware that there are a handful of apps in the marketplace right now catering (for lack of a better word) to hosting dinners with chefs. Ben Leventhal’s Kitchensurfing has taken off, which matches a host with a chef depending on price point and type of cuisine you’d like featured at your dinner/event. And Feastly creates adventurous dining experiences for diners and chefs, with locations TBD upon purchase. But a new app called Cookapp is taking a slightly different approach by allowing chefs to essentially create a pop-up restaurant in their home — complete with safety checks and an “audition dinner” — without having to go through state health departments. The biggest differentiator between Cookapp and Feastly is that the latter uses a fixed price amount, whereas Cookapp is by donation. Talk about a low cost of entry!
