Business is no longer a generic, one-size-fits-all infrastructure. As Chef Brian Duffy said about jobs in the foodservice industry in a recent Fast Casual Trends TV episode, “We have to offer more than just a job. Because with just a job, you’re going to be there and you’re only going to do really what is expected of you, which is to take an order, to drop a basket, to wrap something in plastic… we’re not allowing people to go beyond that.” In Duffy’s opinion — and he doesn’t stand alone — we need to invest in our team(s) so they will, essentially, want to invest in us.
