Will Starbucks be the brand to finally crack the code of mobile ordering and mobile payments? While the coffee king has already implemented in-store mobile payments through its app for loyalty program members, Chief Digital Officer Adam Brotman recently revealed at the Fortune Brainstorm Tech conference that Starbucks will begin testing mobile ordering in an undisclosed market later this year. The challenge that most brands face with this adoption is to be able to seamlessly connect a customer’s digital experience — before they even step foot in the coffeehouse — to an in-store experience — when they pick up their order. According to Brotman, mobile ordering will also only be available to loyalty program members, and the feature will not roll out nationally unless it proves to be an enhancer, rather than a disturbance, to customers.
