Recent studies show that restaurant consumers in their 20s and 30s are no longer as interested in staple fast-serve options such as McDonald's. Instead, they are seeking out fast casual options such as Five Guys and Chipotle. According to Technomic, McDonald’s monthly visits from the age group of 19 to 21-year-olds have dropped by 12.9 percent.
Even if these fast casual restaurants are not actually providing healthier options, the way they have been branding their meals as “fresh” and completely “customizable” seems to be rather effective on this generation.
