How New Orleans' Smoking Ban Is Impacting Restaurants


New Orleans’ smoking ban has only been in effect since April, but its impact is already being felt by area restaurant owners. The ban prohibits diners from smoking inside of a restaurant but does not cover outside dining areas. As a result, restaurants with outdoor patios and designated outdoor spaces are busier than restaurants without them and to some bartenders’ dismay, more customers are hanging out outside than at barstools.
