Industry Veteran, Wolfgang Puck, Talks New D.C. Restaurant

When it comes to celebrity chefs, few are as well known as chef Wolfgang Puck. The 66-year-old chef and owner of The Source near Capitol Hill is planning to open a second restaurant in the nation’s capital within the next year. While the details of the new restaurant are still being sorted out, the chef is pretty sure that the concept will be similar to his Spago restaurants. Spago was the first restaurant that he opened in California in the 80s and its success helped set his career as one of the country’s most popular chefs.

As a chef with a few Michelin stars, it is interesting to read that the chef doesn’t think about them that much. “If I want to open a three-star [Michelin] restaurant then I just have to open a restaurant with 25 seats and make a special tasting menu only and that’s it,” he says. The chef says that that kind of restaurant just doesn’t appeal to him anymore and he is a fan of opening more casual concepts with great food and great hospitality. Puck may be a veteran of the food industry but he isn’t planning on retiring anytime soon. The Austrian-born chef owns 27 fine dining restaurants and has his own line of cooking equipment. Read more.
