A survey conducted by Payscale, a Seattle based research company, has found that San Francisco has the highest paid restaurant workers nationwide. The report also determined that there is a sizeable difference between how much restaurant workers earn around the country, despite working in similar establishments.
On average, San Franciscans who work in the food and beverage industry make anywhere from $9 to $11 an hour with an additional $11.90-$15.50 an hour in tips. These average earnings best even New York, a city with an incredibly high cost of living and a thriving restaurant industry. And, as the survey was conducted before California introduced its higher minimum wage laws, the expected earnings will only increase for San Franciscans.
