In Portland, an American classic has been given a face-lift with elevated hot dogs now appearing on more and more menus throughout the city. While hot dogs are not new to Portland, the previous options involved generally standardized, traditional offerings. Now, restaurants throughout Portland have begun featuring these new, gourmet hot dogs that reinvent the classic dish.
At Bent Brick, the "hamburger dog" was introduced that features house-made sausage made with beef and cheese topped with Bent sauce and relish. Portland's pop-up Stray Dogs features a variety of innovative types of hot dogs, including flavors such as pork bahn mi, kielbasa reuben and a rotating chef special hot dog. And soon to open downtown, from Portland's restaurateurs Micah Camden and Katie Poppe, is the hot-dog centric concept Hop Dog, which will feature both classic New York and Chicago style hot dogs alongside rotating gourmet options, such as Greek lamb sausages.
