While Austin has always had a world renowned culinary scene, over the last decade the city has welcomed a growing number of chefs and restaurateurs who have worked to bring Austin in competition with some of the best food towns in the nation. Local born Larry McGuire is one such restaurateur helping to transform the city's food scene. Behind respected restaurants such as Perla's and Jeffrey's, McGuire oversees six incredibly distinct restaurant concepts in the city.
“When I was growing up, Austin was a medium-sized college town,” McGuire explained to the Wall Street Journal. “But now it’s maturing into something more real. The city is changing so fast.”
And McGuire is greatly to thank. In addition to the six restaurants he currently oversees, this spring his hospitality group plans to open their seventh, June's, partnering with one of seven of Austin's Master Sommeliers to craft an unparalleled beverage program, as well as oversee the opening of several restaurants that will open inside the forthcoming hotel Austin Proper in 2017.
