As the plant-based movement continues to gain traction across the industry, the more restaurants are going to partner with producers to offer these type of proteins.
Beyond Meat has quickly emerged as one of the bigger players in the plant-based protein game. Besides being the first plant-based burger to be sold in the meat section at Whole Foods, the company has partnered with restaurants and food distributors to get the Beyond Burger on more menus.
Burgerfi and Sysco, which is the largest food distributor to restaurants, schools, and hospitals, have both started to carry and supply the Beyond Burger.
Now, Beyond Meat has announced that it’s bringing a new product to the market– Beyond Sausage.
Like the Beyond Burger, the Beyond Sausage has more protein, but much less fat, saturated fat, calories, and sodium. Not to mention, its made with no GMOs, gluten or soy.
The new plant-based sausage product appeals to carnivores because it looks exactly like a traditional sausage. The Beyond Meat sausages are instead made with a blend of pea, fava bean, rice, beet and coconut oil – all wrapped in a casing made from algae.
"I love Beyond Sausage first and foremost because it's truly so enjoyable to eat but also because I see it as an advance in our team's relentless march toward a perfect build of meat from plants," said Ethan Brown, CEO of Beyond Meat in a press release. "Though we aren't there yet, I'm encouraged by the progress we've made with Beyond Sausage and look forward to hearing what the consumer thinks."
So far, there are three Beyond Sausage flavors– Original Bratwurst, Hot Italian and Sweet Italian. All are being sold at the Whole Foods Market Pearl Street store for a limited time. This is the same store where the company introduced its Beyond Burger.
"As a category leader in plant-based meat alternatives, Beyond Meat has revolutionized how consumers get their protein," said Red Elk Banks, vice president of Whole Foods Market's Rocky Mountain region in a press release. "We're thrilled to introduce the Beyond Sausage to our Boulder shoppers, and proud to partner with Beyond Meat on the introduction on another innovative and delicious plant-based protein."
