Minneapolis typically flies under the radar when it comes to its culinary scene. But with plenty of new restaurants and bars popping up around the Twin Cities as of late, especially in places like St. Paul, Minneapolis is quickly becoming a hot spot for anyone looking for memorable places to dine — or drink.
From fresh juices to homemade syrups to small-batch, downtown Minneapolis offers some of the finest cocktail menus in the city. In fact, one local drinks editor called the craft cocktail scene here, “so handsome, George Clooney asks it for dating tips.”
So where should you go when you’re in downtown Minneapolis and in need of some libations?
Here are just three stops getting quite the attention.
Saffron Restaurant & Lounge: Renowned bartender Nikola Govich has put together a creative cocktail program using herbs, spices, and methods inspired by chef Sameh Wadi’s Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine. On the must-try list: the house Mulled Cider with apples coming from a small orchard in Stillwater, MN, which will be available on the upcoming fall menu.
Marvel Bar: Martini lovers will want to check out this downtown staple for a taste of the “best damn gin martini in town,” according to Eater. The elegant cocktail list and chic ambiance makes this the ideal spot for a date night or any special occasion.
Spoon and Stable: When your restaurant is led by a James Beard award-winning chef, you’re going to need a cocktail program of the same distinction. The drinks menu at this French-inspired restaurant definitely lives up to its culinary reputation. At Spoon and Staple, classic cocktail lovers can indulge on everything from a gimlet, to old fashioned and negroni. Or, explore some of the tasty morning specialities during Sunday Brunch, including a Frozen Irish Coffee or a Fizz variation with cereal milk.
