In October, self-made entrepreneur and founder of the brand, Bert "Tito" Beveridge, broke into Forbes’ 400 list of billionaires for the very first time at No. 324.

It’s not often you hear a brand’s story straight from the founding family — especially when it comes to a historical brand like Ketel One. But in a recent article by Cool Hunting, Bob Nolet — the vodka brand’s current Master Distiller and 11th generation family member to hold the title — opens up about the Nolet Distillery’s roots and how Ketel One came to be one of the top vodka brands in the world. (Fun Fact: His father, who created the original Ketel One recipe, still conducts the daily tastings to ensure consistency.)

The idea that vodka could be a successful product came to Carl Nolet in San Francisco in the ’80s, his first time in the U.S., when he noticed that hotel bars in the area offered many vodka-based cocktails.
