Chicago is well-known for its food scene — not only in the form of its acclaimed fine dining restaurants and world-class chefs, but also in its renowned street food (just look at how fanatical Hot Doug’s customers were, especially during its closing). It is also home base to one of the most notable restaurant groups today, and was chosen as the food city to host this year’s James Beard Foundation Awards, the event's first time leaving New York. Later this month, trade industry professionals will invade the Windy City for the annual National Restaurant Association Show.
With so much buzz surrounding Chicago's food & hospitality scene, especially within the next couple of months, the city’s Foodable Top 25 Restaurants list is sure to be affected — for better or worse — right? What’s interesting though is that we haven’t seen a significant shift in Chicago’s Top 25 in a very long time — while restaurants do shift in and out from month to month, we have not seen many significant changes in which restaurants are on the list overall.
This month, Avec leaps up from No. 20 to No. 1 for the first time in Chicago’s Top 25 history. The French-inspired restaurant, with Chef Perry Hendrix as Chef de Cuisine, rolled out a “Friends of avec Brunch Series” earlier this year, with rotating chefs and/or beverage professionals putting their own spin on brunch at avec once a month.
RPM Steak, which held the No. 1 spot last time, moves down to No. 3 with Two Restaurant fittingly climbing to No. 2.
Falling off this month are Grace and The Publican. Replacing them, from month’s past, are Frontera Grill and Vera.
