Why You DoNut Want to Miss Doughnut Daze 2017

Holidays are meant to be spent with loved ones and nothing is more loved than the doughnut!

The first friday of June (the 2nd) is National Doughnut Day. Although there is no paid time off, this sacred day should be spent knee deep in sprinkled gluten bombs– somewhere between sugar shock and a glazed coma; inevitably followed by self hatred and incessant juice-cleanse searches on Google. But, tasting these little bits of heaven will be totally worth it!

The exact origin of the doughnut or “donut” is debatable, one thing is for certain. America loves its donuts. With over 10 billion donuts made each year, these pump and sugary delights have become a fixture in the American diet.

In recent years, Miami has experienced an influx of bakeries offering unique interpretations of this classic treat. Cereal toppings, boozy infusions and even mythological themed donuts have been on the social media radar.

Doughnut culture has finally sprouted roots in the 305 and you doh’not want to miss the festivities...you get a donut, you get a donut, you get a donut!!!!! [insert Oprah here]

Doughnut lovers rejoice because here are some of Miami’s best Doughnut Day deals. What a time to be alive!

This south Miami newcomer has already found itself on the New Times Reader’s Choice ballot with their signature candied honey bee and gluten-free honeycomb cakes.

On Friday, June 2nd, they’re showcasing a rainbow cream doughnut which features all the magic of doughnuts into one compact treat. Customers can also expect in-store deals.

Mojo Donuts

Mojo’s Pembroke Pines location was one of the original artisanal shops in south Florida With the addition of fried chicken to their Westchester location, they are truly doing God’s work. The first 250 customers will receive a complimentary glazed donut with their purchase. And that’s my kind of party favor!

The Salty Donut

The Salty Donut has become Miami’s Dominique Ansel Bakery (NYC), where 7 am lines and “Sold Out” signs have become commonplace. The first 100 customers will receive a traditional glazed donut. While there, you should check out their Unicorn and Sticky Bun doughnuts (seasonal) which rival even the allusive “Cronut”.

Dunkin Donuts

Although DD isn’t my first choice, all donuts should be embraced. DD is celebrating donut day by giving free donuts with any drink purchase. While there, why not try their new chocolate pretzel donut? It tastes and looks like a sexy, “hipster” doughnut but is half the price.

Krispy Kreme

There’s an inexplicable euphoria that takes hold when the “Hot Now” sign illuminates at Krispy Kreme. These golden hamburger buns,I mean doughnuts have been a namesake in the doughnut world for decades. You can get any one of these melt-in-your-mouth sugar pillows for FREE at most Krispy Kreme locations, with no purchase necessary.

Mazel Tov to my fellow donut lovin’ foodies! June 2nd will be a busy one, but our devout affection and endless doughnut desire will see us through. Happy Donut Daze 2017!
